About the Award: “A jury of 102 distinguished international automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their professional work. The votes were tabulated by KPMG.”
EQS: “The MERCEDES-BENZ EQS was chosen from an initial entry list of eight vehicles from all over the world then a short list of three finalists.”
About the Award: “Best of the Best has been around for 34 years. It’s the annual issue for which we pause our relentless pursuit of the latest and greatest to take stock of the luxury industry over the past 12 months and anoint those brands, innovators and artisans who have reached the pinnacle of their profession. Prizes have recognized the marriage of remarkable craft and exceptional design in the manufacture of an item, either by hand or by machine, of impeccable quality.”
AMG EQS: “Unlike the tech-centered minimalism of certain EVs, exquisite details abound in the EQS, including intricate brightwork, the option of leather accents plus perfectly executed fit and finish—hallmarks of the brand’s long history of obsessive design and engineering brought to bear in a vehicle that marks a new era for the world’s oldest marque.”
About the Award: “Each year we test hundreds of new cars and trucks, including those powered by electricity. Our extensive testing means we dive deep into what makes certain vehicles better than others.”
EQS: “No surprise, we named it to our 2022 Editors' Choice list. Its curvaceous body effortlessly slips through the air for maximum efficiency, and its palatial cabin boasts luxurious appointments and state-of-the-art features for the all-important wow factor.”
About the Award: “Vehicles that earn our Editors' Choice award each year are the top-ranked models in their respective segments. Those that were named to our 10Best list automatically earn an Editors' Choice badge.”
EQS: “A vast and truly awe-inspiring interior, more range than German EV rivals, a showcase of Mercedes's latest technology. The all-electric EQS sedan combines Mercedes's luxury bona fides with noteworthy EV credentials and dazzling tech.””
AMG EQS: “Snappy acceleration, lovely interior, comfortable ride. AMG turns up the volume on the Mercedes-AMG EQS Sedan electric luxury sedan, adding more power and a slightly more aggressive appearance inside and out.”
About the Award: “We rated vehicles in two ways: by test driving them and by comparing their standard and available features and specifications to those of other vehicles in the same category. The Newsweek autos team drove about 200 vehicles, rating them in seven categories: performance, handling and braking, technology, cargo area, seating, interior appointments and pricing. We focused on how well the vehicles lived up to the expectations of the target customer.”
EQS: “Like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the electric EQS is meant to be the pinnacle of sedan travel. It succeeds in that through an adaptable suspension, a near-silent ride and a coddling interior with heated, cooled and massaging seats. The entire dashboard is taken up by a touchscreen that can also be controlled by the driver's voice.”
EQS: “The 42.3-inches of screen real estate makes for one of the most immersive cockpits I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting in. The dash itself is also complemented by RGB ambient lighting with over 15 different modes and 64 color selections. Thankfully the screens and lights are incredible to look at—especially at night—without being overbearing.”
About the Award: How We Rank Cars: “Our new car rankings are based on two types of information: published reviews from respected automotive critics and data from third-party sources based on performance, interior and critics’ rating. In addition to the analysis of professional reviews, we add information of particular interest to new-car shoppers, such as safety, reliability, fuel economy, cargo, and towing/hauling capacity data, that isn't always part of the critics' qualitative reviews.”
EQS: “The brand-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS debuts with a top ranking in the luxury electric car class thanks in part to its sophisticated and roomy interior, graceful performance, and large cargo hold.” “If you're looking for the pinnacle of luxury and technology in an efficient and engaging EV, then the new EQS is for you. It's a compelling alternative to the Tesla Model S, beating that vehicle in both build quality and panache.”
About the Award: How Kelley Blue Book Rates Cars: “Before we rate any vehicle, we rank it exclusively against its direct competitors. Our editors bring together our testing and voting results and focus on the margins between the new vehicle being rated and the competitors directly above and below it on the ladder.”
EQS: “The 2023 Mercedes-EQ EQS Sedan delivers exciting performance and futuristic tech features with the luxury you would expect from the brand.”
About the Award: “J.D. Power surveys tens of thousands of verified new-vehicle owners every year. Second, based on millions of data points provided by those newvehicle owners, the company analyzes and summarizes owner sentiment in the annual Initial Quality Study (IQS) and Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.”
EQS: “Within its aerodynamic body, the EQS dazzles occupants with glamorous interior appointments and jaw-dropping technology, undoubtedly helping it to land the top APEAL ranking in the segment.”
About the Award: “The Wards 10 Best list has recognized 28 years’ worth of engines and have thoroughly recognized powertrain teams for their ability to dial up more power, more torque and better efficiency.”
AMG EQS: “The AMG EQS’s rapid acceleration and quick charging time earn raves from the Wards judges.” “Judge Christie Schweinsberg calls the AMG EQS’s acceleration ‘whiplash-inducing’ but also ‘civilized in suburban slow-speed driving, unlike ICEs ith this much power.’” “In Mercedes lore, ‘velvet hammer’ describes an AMG with understated sheetmetal concealing a super-powerful internal-combustion engine. We think the stealthy AMG EQS is a capable and fitting – if electrified – inheritor of that title.”
About the Award: This marks the first year the interior and user (UX) experience awards have been combined. Wards Auto evaluated 22 vehicles - that were either new or heavily redesigned - and narrowed it down to ten.
EQS: This video clip highlighting the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 was played during the recent ceremony celebrating the 2022 winners.
About the Award: “The Best New Cars for 2022 is comprised of 12 vehicles selected by a team of experts at Autotrader, who collectively tested and scored new models using a range of criteria. Each chosen vehicle has unique features specific to anyone’s lifestyle needs, including interior comfort, build quality, tech features, driving experience and more. Vehicles had to be of the current or next model-year and score a 4.0 or higher on a 5-point scale.”
EQS: “If you're looking for an electric car that boasts the luxury, reputation and innovation of Mercedes-Benz, the EQS is for you. Depending on the version you choose, you can expect a range of 340 – 350 miles. Our editors think the range and interior of the EQS are enough to win over many Tesla shoppers, beyond the fact that the EQS also is good-looking.”
EQS: “The Mercedes EQS450+ is an incredibly luxurious car, with a high electric range, and all the bells and whistles you would want in a high-end car in 2022. It’s hard to say if it’s better than the Model S, but it certainly feels more luxurious when you’re in it.”
EQS: “Take a seat in it, and you will feel like you’re sitting in the literal lap of luxury.” “The cabin noise is minimal, and even when you’re driving at higher speeds, you feel separated from the outside world – it’s that quiet.” “Now, as far as the EQS’ power, let’s just say that it’s intoxicating. We tested the EQS 450+ and the AMG EQS this year and were blown away by both.”
About the Award: “Each award year, Green Car Journal editors examine the universe of vehicle models sold in the U.S. that distinguish themselves with exemplary environmental credentials. Through an extensive vetting process, five vehicles are identified in each of eight categories that stand out by virtue of their environmental achievement. This process considers many factors such as lower carbon emissions, greater efficiency, or the use of advanced technologies such as lightweighting, electrification, more efficient internal combustion, or other innovative efficiencyenhancing or sustainability strategies. Each model that rises to the top 5 in a category are honored with Green Car Journal’s Green Car Product of Excellence™.”
EQS: Previous article: “Each EQS is produced following carbon-neutral practices including the use of recycled materials, from the steel in its body to the yarn in its carpets. The roof of the factory that produces the EQS is covered with photovoltaic cells that produce about 30 percent of the factory’s energy needs. When EQS owners charge their sedans using the Mercedes me Charge app, all the energy comes from renewable resources. The production of lithium-ion batteries at Mercedes’ Hedelfingen plant will also be CO2 neutral in 2022.”
EQS: “I polled those of us on staff who get test cars regularly (regardless of whether they review them here or elsewhere) to toss me their picks for the best and worst things they drove in 2022 -- each person was asked to write up one to three cars for each category. The only real rule is that it had to be driven within the calendar year -- no holdovers from 2021.” “Range anxiety? Pssh. The EQS promised 320 miles on a charge. […] To be clear, it's not the range that impressed me the most -- other EVs are getting there, too. It's the total package.”
EQS: “’Mercedes-Benz models deliver Quality with all product attributes at significantly higher levels than most other luxury brands. Styling and innovation combined with performance and brand image all led to increased quality perceptions for the brand,’ notes Chris Chaney, Senior Vice President of Strategic Vision.”
